Beth is a young girl who had no biological parents but was adopted by other parents alongside her brother. They were both taken in through the adoption process by Mr. and Mrs. Tim who then became their parents to date. However, Beth's life was full of incidences where she went through a lot of trauma which brought her a lot of emotional problems (Lewis et al., 2014). The causes of trauma were endless abuse from the parents. As a result, her social life became miserable finding herself not accepting people and other creatures. She later came to a point where she had to recover from all these through specific therapies. It was a way of ensuring that she became compatible with the society and can be able to move on with the normal life.
Some of the risk factors that associate with Beth's biological parents' home environment include sexual abuse and lack of motherhood. Beth lost her mother when she was still young thus exposed her to a lot of life risks. According to Lewis et al. (2014), it caused a drawback that saw her lack of the mother care hence exposing her to a different kind of abuse from her father. During this time, the father presented her to sexual harassment and to be specific, rape. It was risky for her and the brother succumbing her to various emotional problems. The girl's age and gender could have been a factor that made her go through the mental trauma. Beth was young to realize the actions of her father at the age of one year. The father took advantage of her and subjected her to undefined sexual harassments. Considering that she was the only female gender around her parents' environment, the father inappropriately used her instead of engaging older individuals of the same gender.
Beth Thomas had signs and symptoms of abuse when she started having nightmares. The nightmares were about a male on top of her who then hurt her with a part of him. She made her adoptive parents worried thus the reason for taking a course of action (Lewis et al., 2014). Another symptom was, she started violence with her adoptive parents and her brother as well. She confessed to having wanted both her adoptive parents and her brother to die. She even thought of killing both of them at a certain point. Equally, she could also go ahead and kill all the pets. Then lastly, a severe symptom which unusual at her age was when she started rubbing her private parts. She seriously masturbated in public, making herself bleed as well.
After leaving the abusive environment, her adoptive parents tried to be protective by not letting her abuse her brother further. Immediately her adoptive parents realized that he was demoralizing the younger brother by hitting him, they advised Beth otherwise. Her adoptive parents went ahead to protect some animals against Beth's violence. They acted by suggesting to her about the effects of harming animals and the consequences that may arise.
Throughout the traumatizing moments that Beth went through, her adoptive parents took different initiatives to ensure that she recovered. The parents decided to take Beth to a qualified psychologist specialized in handling children who had been victims of sexual abuse. They contacted Dr. Ken Magid who was a clinical psychologist with all the qualifications that were required to cure the affected Beth (Lewis et al., 2014). He was able to hospitalize her and thought that such a course of action would be for Beth's good. During the time Beth was at the hospital, the doctor diagnosed with a disorder which always kept her away from relating well with other people.
Similarly, during the time of hospitalization, some rules were set to guide Beth. The rules guided her and even made her remain calm. They helped in a way that she could not harm other children whatsoever. Later, the initiatives successfully worked, and she managed to be released from the hospital fully recovered. A combination of "true" victims and "true" perpetrators would be the best way to treat the victims of abuse. The mixture is necessary since all of them cut across the sexual abuse case. It protects every child who has gone through child abuse no matter the circumstances. For example, true victims are those that are affected by caregivers, and they need any treatment for survival (Lewis et al., 2014). As for the perpetrators, the victims are the ones abused, and the effects go all the way to their adulthood. The victims are always presumed to be male. The combination treatment, therefore, involves any child abuse and it ensures both victims are safe and shows no further effects.
In summary, the Child Rage documentary explains the consequences of extreme abuse amongst children. It is disconcerting since the effects accompanied with it are up to causing trauma hence resulting in a whole society feeling the impact. Human beings and animals feel the torture, and if there is no quick therapy on the same, then there would be no signs of one recovering.
