After carefully analyzing the "Workflow Assessment for Health IT Toolkit", the three concepts that I would use in redesigning the workflow at Mount Sinai Hospital are determining the system requirements, selecting a vendor and preparing for system implementation (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, n.d.). Requirements determination is the core component of system analysis and design as this is the first step where the management and users of the system begin to understand the need for the system. Requirements determination can be divided into two main activities: requirements determination and Requirements structuring. In creating workflows, this process will be used in the collection of information using interviews, questionnaires, analyzing organizational procedures and directly by observing the users. The information gathered will provide a direction on how the workflow and the system will be designed.
In vendor selection, there is a need for the management at Mount Sinai Hospital to define the requirements and assembling a vendor selection team that will be responsible for selecting the right software application (Huser, 2011). The vendor selection team should have an understanding and the expertise the area of business that the application is going to support. Preparing for system implementation can be a very long and challenging process. During this process, it is vital to ensure that there is minimal alignment between the processes required and the application during the implementation process. It is also important to review the application requirements as well as ensure that all the users need, and the infrastructure needed has been taken into consideration (Huser, 2011).

The article by Huser et al. (2011) talks about the use of a workflow engine technology that can support clinical decision making for institutions. The article also details the required architecture and software components that are required during the implementation. To improve workflow at Mount Sinai Hospital, this software can be used in the modelling and execution of decision-support problems in the areas of creating user-friendly flowchart representations and retrospective testing (Huser, 2011). It is therefore important to monitor the effect of technology on workflow as this is vital in reducing costs and ensuring efficiently in healthcare institutions. Technology also helps IT manage workflows more effectively and efficiently thus ensuring the availability and quality of healthcare data when needed (HT Mag, 2012).
