Clothing and Body Adornments Communication 

Clothing and body adornments communicate about one’s prestige, importance or status. Some clothes and adornment communicate achievements. For instance, the stripes seen on military clothing indicate the rank and number of years one has served. In scouting, badges, pins and ribbons are used in showing achievements. Some letters and wordings on school uniforms are used to communicate achievement in academics and athletics. A section of people put on some clothes and adornment for implying their status is superior to that of others. For instance, designer clothes have names of designers and their logos, and individuals wearing them are easily identified with them. For instance, police, mail attendants and flight attendants communicate their role with ease by looking at their clothes. 

2. Body Language Shapes Who You Are 

According to Cuddy and her research partner, individuals do not complete control on what they are communicating because in most cases it happens unconsciously. According to the two, when individuals feel and communicate they are powerful, their hormones shape them to appear more assertive, more confident and more optimistic. They tend to feel that, even at games of chance, they are going to come out victorious. Psychologically, they even tend to think more abstractly, and they are ready to take risks. Physiologically, powerful and effective leaders display high testosterone and low cortisol, and that the body can shape the mind. In the same vein, role changes tend to shape one’s mind. I learnt that the way one poses while standing or sitting depicts whether one is powerful or powerless. I was surprised that body shape can determine what one has in mind. Nothing was contradicted. 

Most things I heard from Dr. Cuddy are similar to what is in the text. For instance, bother Dr. Cuddy and the text tend to recognize the fact that, nonverbal govern they way people fell and think about themselves. 

I am aware of nonverbal behaviors that might make me feel less powerful and confident. For instance, in an interview, the best way to exhibit confidence is by avoiding folding oneself and the same can be observed in friends. 

In view of nonverbal behaviors, I will be employing new strategies of sitting and standing in a manner that exhibits confidence and power.
