Reading the essay about crime data reporting was insightful to a large extent. One of the most notable aspects that I picked from the piece is the discrepancies associated with self-reported data. True to your word, although it can be an indispensable source of information that could otherwise not be captured by official channels or other stakeholders, it could be biased due to the possibility of a personal point of view influencing an individual’s reporting. Your assertion that official data is more reliable is also largely agreeable. The overall take away from the essay, is hence, the fact that both official and self-reported data is indispensable in containing crime (Gilman et al., 2014). Although the information presented is appealing, it could be made even better by providing examples that exemplify the different types of data reporting discussed. A Christian worldview that can be applied to crime data is the fact authority is from God and it is to implement its roles for the benefit of God’s people. In this case, hence, it should use such data to ensure a reduction in crime. I find the choice to compare last week, and this week’s reading educative to a large extent. A comparison is an approach that can bring out aspects of a piece that could otherwise be difficult if this approach is not applied. As a result, I feel like the essay has been written from a highly informed point of view. Besides the above, addressing data validity stands out for me because validity is a primary objective in data collection. Also, validity ensures reliability(Straus, 2017). Other than this aspect that I strongly agree with, outlining the pros and cons of official and self-reported data helps in understanding the dynamics related to crime-related data. Although the points are well explained, to improve the paper further, I suggest more in-depth research on data manipulation, an aspect that I see is of interest. A Christian worldview that would apply to the essay is the need, to be honest in all undertakings in order not to compromise the outcomes of an undertaking, in this case, criminal data collection and reporting.
