July 3, 2020, I am 2 hours into my shift, whereby I am taking care of a COVID-19 patient. The virus is continuing to cause havoc across the globe, leaving a trail of losses ( Li et al., 2020 ). Many people have died due to COVID-19 disease, while economic activities have been halted. Fully dressed in personal protective equipment (PPE), I set about evaluating the patient recovery progress. The patient that I am taking care of today was discharged from hospital after registering commendable improvement. The is charging doctor stated that they were medically stable, and nurses can be visiting them for regular care in a designated health home.

My duty is mainly advance support and aid the patient cover basic needs. I focus on explaining the instructions on how to take their medicines. Principally, I tell the patient that even if they feel like they have fully recovered, they have to complete their medicine unless the doctor advises otherwise. I also make sure that the patient is drinking a lot of fluids and has enough rest. Another critical thing that I inform the patient about is avoiding unnecessary contact with the other people and pets to prevent reinfection or infecting others ( Anderson et al., 2020 ). I also ensure that despite the social distancing restrictions, the patient has sufficient psychological support. I understand that engaging the patient in positive conversations will enhance their morale, thus improving nursing care outcomes ( Sun et al. 2020 ).

COVID-19 has substantially affected the life of this particular patient. As a person of advanced age, he used to get regular visits from his family members. Due to visitation restrictions, he has not been able to receive his family members. COVID-19 patients need empathy, especially from their families. Cognizant of this fact, I organized how the patient would be communicating with his loved ones through video calls and social media platforms. Also, I volunteered as much information as they would need during their healing process.
