The scientific method, a system of measurement, observation, testing and experimentation is employed in various aspects of our life. In everyday life, I employ the scientific method in critical thinking. In this case, one good example of critical thinking is weather prediction and testing. Just like any other aspect of scientific methods, this critical thinking incorporates all elements of the scientific method. The hypothesis for the experiment would be that the weather for a day is bound to be favorable and I won’t need a sweater or a multi-layer t-shirt. In testing this experiment, I first make a general observation then go ahead a design an experiment to test the hypothesis.

I have a pocket thermometer that is used in analyzing the data and making the conclusion. The hypothesis is further narrowed to data collected based on 5 degree Celsius. The dependent variable, in this case, is degree Celsius whereas the independent variable is temperature. It is also important to consider other factors that might affect the result of the test. A controlled test is effective for this kind of experiment and therefore would involve taking temperature readings at room temperature where the outside temperature is constant.

The data collection method can simply involve identifying 4 different regions and just observing my pocket thermometer and recording data. If 75 % of the regions of data collected shows the thermometer to be greater than the hypothesized degree Celsius then I definitely need to be warm for the war, the opposite is true for the null hypothesis. The scientific method has a wide range of application hence for anyone with plans of applying it in daily life; one way of actually improving on the accuracy of the result is to increase the sample size one is planning to use simply.
