For any team in an organization to be successful, the team members must possess some particular traits. An individual team's characteristics are critical in determining whether a team will achieve its laid down goals and objectives. For instance, if most team members are lackluster and unenterprising, the team is doomed to fail. The following are 15 characteristics I believe that every valuable team member should possess to have a great team.

A valuable team member should be open-minded. He should be willing to consider new ideas brought up in the team, analyze their effectiveness with no prejudice, and consider that their own opinions could also be wrong. Such is critical as it can help avoid mistakes that can lead to unforeseen losses and accept fresh ideas that can bring growth to a team. Moreover, a team member should often increase his skills and knowledge and learn alternative ways of problem-solving.

A team member should be enterprising around the team and show interest and initiative in work being done by the team. Such helps a team maintain a high level of energy and enthusiasm for completing the given tasks.

One should be responsible when handling the tasks he has been assigned and should do them to the best of his ability while regarding the laid team policies, and he should own up for any mistakes that may arise in his work. This helps in fostering accountability within the team. One should be loyal to the team by showing support to the team and remaining faithful to completing tasks assigned to the team. Loyalty increases productivity in the team as loyal members are always hungry to succeed and tackle challenges when they arise (Kim et al., 2019). A valuable team member should display genuine commitment by acknowledging his team's role and being ready to help out when needed. This important as more tasks can be handled faster.

A team member should be respectful to his colleagues. Team members should be able to differ with respect and appreciate different opinions from other team members (Kim et al., 2019). Optimum productivity is achieved where team members have mutual respect. He should be adaptable to different and more diverse working environments. Such is critical as one can perform tasks even in the highly challenging environments efficiently.

A team member should display empathy to his colleagues by being aware of their feelings and analyzing things from their perspectives (Osborne & Hammoud, 2017). One should also learn to listen to their team members and responding appropriately according to their moods. A valuable team member should be confident and bold in airing their views. This is vital for the team as confident members are not affected by criticism or failure. One should always be persistent when embracing new challenging tasks, and he should not give up in the face of uncertainties and setbacks. A team member should always be motivated even in challenging times. This is important as it creates positivity and enthusiasm within the team, enabling tasks to be done more easily. A valuable team member should be a good communicator (Osborne & Hammoud, 2017). Good communication skills are imperative because ideas and solutions need to be addressed correctly to achieve the desired outcome.
