They viewed themselves as people who were inferior to the Indians. Indians were viewed as giants because of the fear that came over Cabeza de Vaca and his men when they met them. They were afraid the Karankawa Indians would kill them. The fear of the unknown came over them as well. They did not know what to expect from the Karankawa Indians. It is because of this the Cabeza De Vaca opted for diplomacy for the sake of peace. Cabeza De Vaca and his men lived in virtual slavery for about two years after being captured by the Karankawa Indians. They viewed themselves as people who were in bondage. They felt like they did not have a choice in whatever was to happen to them. This is illustrated when the Indians insisted the Spaniards would be healers yet they had no experience whatsoever. In spite of this, the Indians still made them feel cared for when they provided food, built fire and shelter for them (Texas beyond History, 2018).

Astronauts are examples of present day conquistadors. This is because they are explorers who are trying to conquer the parts of the universe that have not been ventured into. Astronauts are exploring and conquering space with each discovery being made. Religious missionaries are also conquistadors. This is because they move from nation to nation spreading their beliefs to the unbelievers and winning souls for God. These missionaries are able to change the perspectives of people to life and religion. Journalists are conquistadors because they follow the story to whichever place it can be found. Many will go undercover in order to shed light into issues that are affecting the society. Many have gone to prisons, war-prone regions, and shoot outs just for a story. They risk their lives to conquer moments when history and life changing experiences and history are being made anywhere on the planet. The environmental warriors and also conquistadors who are determined and fixated on ensuring the world knows how the environment is being affected by the choices human beings make. They are very aggressive and determined to conquer the hearts of many with their courses and ensure the destruction of the planet is stopped.
