Healthcare industries usually present unique challenges to HR managers in their quest to meet their objectives. HR managers in healthcare feel there is a gap between their role and organizational goals. This is because, for a long time, healthcare HR managers have been sidelined and not integrated to help organizations fulfill their mandate. 

HR managers struggle with shortages in the workforce, both in the HR department and in the organizations. Every year there is a shortage of over 200,000 nurses due to retirement and increased demands in patients care. HR managers are stretched, trying to fill this gap (Kabene, Orchard, Howard, & Leduc Raymond, 2006).

HR managers are facing a high rate of employee turnover in most healthcare organizations. It is the work of the HR department to recruit the best practitioners in the market, and when they do and the staff leaves, then it becomes a problem. 

Most HR departments feel they are underfunded, and they cannot attract competitive staff through programs such as training and tuition reimbursement. When HR departments are underfunded, then they lose their competitive edge in getting the best medical practitioners to work in their organizations (Dussault & Carl-Ardy, 2003). 

HR managers should departments should facilitate the process of cascading goals. When an organization sets its goals, the goals should flow down the chain of command, and HR should be core in facilitating this process. 

HR managers need to make sure the organization's goals are measurable, and employees have dates of delivery and clear deadlines. HR is responsible for creating a competitive culture that has no complacency. 

HR managers should help align organization goals by reinforcing them through development. This is done by ensuring employees have the skills and equipment they need to actualize those goals, and HR will help in monitoring how these plans are used (Niles, 2012).
