Human beings are generally social beings. Despite the fact that sometimes they need ‘alone’ time, mostly, they need to be affiliated with others; especially after a stressful situation. After socializing, they get motivated and re-energized to continue working hard. It is due to this reason that McClelland developed a motivation theory over the need for achievement, affiliation and power ( Hofer & Hagemeyer, 2018 ). In his argument on affiliation argument, McClelland recognized the need for love, belonging and relatedness. He stated that people need to belong to a certain social group to be liked and recognized in the family and society ( Kovač, 2016 ). Therefore, as a manager, this theory is important for employees who have been avoiding going off for a whole week. This is because, taking some time off and spending time with loved ones is important for holistic development and stress relive.

To convince the employees effectively, I would explain to them how important it is to balance between work and social life. They are both important and neither should replace the other. I would remind them how working for long hours would be stressing, a factor that would reduce productivity. I would let them know that if they take some time off and spend it on a vacation, their mind would feel rejuvenated and fresh to work after commencing. This would eventually increase their productivity.

Response

The reinforcement theory is important motivating employees in working hard at the workplace. This is because, if an individual is not rested well enough, he or she may become frustrated, bored or agitated. Vacations and spending time with friends and family eliminates all this and encourages hard work. To effectively communicate this to employees, it would be stated that to them that taking some time off is good for their wellbeing. Besides, by letting them know that this is deemed as company culture meant to show value, appreciation and ensure that employees are safe and take pride in their work.
