On the other hand, a decrease in population means that the birth rate is low; this can be due to the continuous use of family planning methods, abortions, and the death of new-borns among others. According to the demographic transition model article, water and food-borne diseases such as cholera are the minority cause of death today. However, decrease in population is good because it allows the government to have a population that it can easily maintain in terms of food surplus and living conditions.
