The U.S Department of Health and Human Services is an administrator of various human services. Some of the human services offered under its umbrella include health insurance; social services, such as child care, assistance for the needy families, and community support; educational and training assistance through funding and scholarships; protection of civil rights and Medicaid privacy; and public health and safety through provision of information about drugs, food, and prevention of violence (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, n.d.). The commitment of the HHS department is founded on the need to create stable communities that are free from various adversities of the environment, such as diseases, exposure to drug abuse, poverty, and illiteracy, among others. Education and training emerges as a strong tool through which the HHS enlightens the community about the adversities to avoid.
Ethical conduct is one of the social changes I would strive toward in my role as a human services administrator. As Laureate Education’s video on Social Change states, everyone must sign a code of conduct before commencing a job with an agency or company. Ethical conduct is one through which one gains the trust of others in various endeavors. It is also the means through which an organization gains the acceptance of the community in which it works. In the video, Social Change, it is clear that an administrator should not accept personal gifts and this becomes part of the ethical code of ethics of the human services organizations. However, ethical conduct has never been considered as part of the citizen living in the broad context where he or she must meet and interact with people. It is only considered in the context of a work place.

Cultivating trust in individuals is one of the toughest endeavors that one can engage in as a social change agent. However, with various competencies embedded in the administrator’s mind and way of life, everything is possible. Integrity is a strong determinant of an administrator’s success in his or her endeavors to drive social change. While the administrator may be lucky to obtain funding from donors in a bid to engage in the training of masses, some administrators may use the funds to accomplish their personal goals in life. My commitment as a human services administrator is to ensure that I do not only rely on donor funding to make my ambition a success but I also contribute my cash to boost the outcomes of various training undertakings.
Human services organizations are vested with powers to control whatever happens in the events associated with social change. The HHS, for instance, has several undertakings aimed at influencing the lives of Americans. Trust and integrity are the foundations of good outcomes in the commitments of an administrator when working for a human services organization. For instance, an individual suffering from a drug addiction must trust someone before he or she speaks up to expose his or her engagements with drugs. Taking into consideration that some issues of concern deserve some level of seriousness, it is imperative that those in leadership positions within the human services organizations establish lenient ways through which to reach the members of public who may need assistance. Training and education opportunities are mostly available in various human services organizations. In cases where the funds get in the hands of untrustworthy administrators, some deserving individuals miss the chances of scholarship that could improve their social skills and also enable them to be better citizens who could be of help in driving social change.
The HHS as an administrator of human services can contribute to social change in tremendous ways. Being a government initiative, this department can be the leeway through which community members can get an education, particularly those who hail from economically challenged families. The department can also provide a means through which to rehabilitate citizens who engage in drug abuse. In the rehabilitation centers, these citizens can be engaged in productive undertakings that could be of help to them after recovering from the adverse effects of drug use. in alignment with public health and safety, the HHS can contribute to social change by setting some funds aside to train people on how to lead healthy lives by avoiding foods that boost obesity and other related conditions plus heightening the public’s awareness of the importance of exercises in keeping the bodies fit and resistant to some of the most common deficiencies.
In conclusion, human services have a role to play in driving social change. The notions of trust and personal integrity are important in enabling the success of a human services’ administrator. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, HHS, is one of the administrators in human services vested with the powers to initiate and find ways of attaining social change. Inculcating ethical conduct is one of the social changes I would support as a way of ensuring harmony and the co-existence of community members. Education and training is the main way through which ethical conduct can be embedded in the minds and way of life of citizens. While people will always sign a code of ethics before commencing job with an organization or agency, ethical conduct among the citizens can only be embedded as part of their culture. This would enable people to uphold the notions of trust and personal integrity, traits that are critical in determining how one deals with others in a social context. Ethical conduct would also be important in eradicating some of the adversities experienced by the citizens in their day to day lives. Substance abuse, for instance, emerges as a result of lack of personal integrity and esteem. These would be addressed as part of the social change aimed at encouraging ethical conduct among the citizens.
