Introduction

Humanism is a philosophical theory that affirms the power and character of humans to live ethically to attain personal fulfillment and the greater good. Humanists believe in the existence of one life and thus have to live it to joyous satisfaction. In humanism is there is non-existence of a supernatural being, and therefore human beings have exceptional knowledge on how to lead the life ethically. Life opens up for discovery and humanists take responsibility for their own lives and believe in personal achievements. The primary arguments that guide humanism have supporting evidence that defines the strength and weaknesses of the theory in the development of human knowledge ( Hartshorne, 2017). The essay outlines the strengths and weaknesses of the primary arguments in humanism and its importance to humans as a philosophical theory.

Strengths and Weaknesses

The strengths of the humanism theory based on the primary argument make most people find it a valid approach to life. Humanism argues on both the real nature and the free will of humankind to changes. Humans are very powerful and can make decisions that are ethically acceptable based on the changes despite their state in nature. The knowledge is humans comes from interaction with nature and thus have the free will to make decision-based on their situation to achieve happiness. The second strength of humanism is the complementarity of its aspects with other theories in the world of philosophy ( Mäki, 2015) . The approach allows non-humanists to adopt some of its aspects as evidenced by therapists who use the humanistic undertone to help their clients change. Some argue that humanistic is short-lasting, but its elements fit with other approaches which ease its implementation physicality in humans. The third strength is based on its benefits to humanity because it applies to the world of the profession as a way of expressing the power of self-knowledge. The theory allows humans to be aware of their bodies and make the necessary advancements for personal fulfillment.

The weaknesses of humanism theory are identified through the critics on its primary aspects. The central block building humanism is the aspect of free will, which is challenging to analyze the level of effectiveness. The theory fails to explain some of the issues affecting humanity because it is centered around specific happenings. Secondly, humanism does not apply to people with exceptional life experiences, especially due to medically caused trauma cases. Humans feel that their knowledge and free will does not provide solutions to natural adaptability. The lack of advanced explanation in the basic arguments of humanism makes it weak to support human actions ( Daquino, Peroni, & Tomasi, 2019) . Lastly, the generalizations made by the theory that ethics are based on human knowledge does not serve a universal explanation. Most of the arguments on human nature are unacceptable in some parts of the world because some humans make negative opinions even with positive choices. Many questions are left unanswered by the theory considering its difficulty to research the core principles guiding the arguments.

Importance of Humanism

The basic principles regarding the humanism significantly boost human knowledge and philosophical thoughts. The theory is based on free will, which allows people to pursue their goals by developing abilities that promote liberty. In the process of applying self-interest, beneficial discoveries emerge, making the world a better place. The existence of useful discoveries and accomplishments is a clear signal of human knowledge development. Most of the achievements on earth trigger philosophical thoughts when people strive to understand the aspect of nature behind each new happening ( Mäki, 2015) . Humanists believe individual autonomy, which allows freedom to religion, speech, and social policies that expand the philosophical understanding. The belief in laws that protect the innocent is an indication of the knowledge development in humans who can make better decisions regarding good and wrong. Humanists identify opportunities throughout their lives and thus strive to implement each for personal fulfillment as evident by many projects.

Application of Humanism

The philosophy of humanism involves the use of rational thoughts to come up with solutions to any problems without influence from any supernatural powers. In history, most people suffering in prisons demonstrated hope and positivity because of the belief that humans have all the ability to control nature. Most atheists perform works of kindness to generate happiness as part of their life and personal fulfillment. The belief in happiness despite challenges in life is an indication of humanism because one ought to use the available resources provided by nature to get a solution ( Hartshorne, 2017) . The continuous process of interventions and luxurious discoveries by people shows their power to control nature based on knowledge. Medics dissect individual parts confidently because they believe that diseases are fundamental problems and human experience on rational thought can solve to bring happiness.

Conclusion

The basic principles of humanism are grounded on the belief that free will to use rational thoughts to solve problems. Humanists believe that people live once and should lead a fulfilling life by utilizing their knowledge in controlling changes in nature. Humans are their sources of natural happiness, according to humanist.
