Reflection Paper

Describe how you could use hypothesis testing to help make a decision in your current job, a past job, or a life situation. Include a description of the decision, what would be the null and alternative hypotheses, and how data could ideally be collected to test the hypotheses.

Hypothesis testing is the act of statistical analysis of parameters obtained through testing assumptions in a given field. In the field of medical care, decision making is required to know the key areas which need immediate attention to prevent the spread of certain diseases. For instance, research to test several deaths resulting from HIV/AIDS compared to the other vaccine controlled diseases would be conducted by selecting a sample of 100 deaths in hospitals. The assumption in this situation is that HIV/AIDS has the most number of mortalities, and therefore we will test the validity of the presumption to deliver more attention to the affected area. The null hypothesis, in this case, relates HIV/AIDS deaths as equal to the number of deaths resulting from the other vaccine controlled diseases.

According to the research, we will conduct an alternative hypothesis to test whether the null hypothesis is valid. The test conducted on a sample of 100 mortalities in one month shows that for every ten mortalities in most of the hospitals, seven results from people living with HIV/AIDS. Consequently, the average number of mortalities resulting from HIV/AIDS ranges at around 75-80 for every 100 mortalities. Therefore, the null hypothesis which states that an assumption has equal chances of occurring will be rejected in this case. The alternative hypothesis proves that more deaths are resulting from HIV/AIDS through statistical analysis; thus more attention is required on the HIV/AIDS patients.

Describe how you could use confidence intervals to help make a decision in your current job, a past job, or life situation. Include a description of the decision, how the interval would impact the decision, and how data could ideally be collected to determine the interval.

Confidence intervals are ranges within which samples collected are expected to fall under a given study. In repeated research on the same field, same or closely related results are expected to be collected when checking on the probability of occurrence. Medical care is a very crucial area in the growth of a nation and needs particular scrutiny before deciding on medical attention to the offering. For instance, in medical care, research to determine the number of patients who have HIV/AIDS would be conducted to provide the right medication. In this research, we will evaluate the repeated tests on several patients in hospitals and the results.

An estimated test shows that 60 out of 100 patients in hospitals have HIV/AIDS which account for 60 percent. A repeated analysis is conducted on a sample of 100 in patients in the hospitals to test these statistics. In the research, the expected results should lie within the 60 percent rate, for the newly admitted patients to provide a confidence interval. Therefore, practically, the research conducted on the newly admitted patients ranges at around 55-60 patients. These confidence intervals offer the basis for testing for HIV/AIDS infections before treatment is provided.

Describe how you could use regression analysis to help make a decision in your current job, a past job, or a life situation. Include a description of the decision, what would be the independent and dependent variables, and how data could ideally be collected to calculate the regression equation

Regression analysis is a factor conducted to examine the effect of one variable compared to the other variables in a given facility. Regression analysis helps to discern the products and services which have more interests to the customers. In regression analysis research, the study is carried out to decipher the level of satisfaction among the customers to improve the weaker areas. For instance, in an industry offering production and supply of beverages, the industry can research to know the brands which satisfy the consumer needs and those that do not suffice.

According to the data presented on consumer satisfaction, the industry would be able to improve the inferior quality goods as well as providing more of the beverages that satisfy the consumers fully. Regression analysis for the beverage industry presents diverse interests in the brands supplied, thus eliminating the brands which are slow-moving and replacing them with the fast-moving brands. In most cases, the regression analysis is efficient where the data collected shows relevance to consumer interests. However, regression analysis can be used to decipher the progress of the industry generally.
