With a shortage of oxygen, the brain quickly stops to function. If the oxygen shortage persists, an individual dies or suffers permanent brain damage. This is known as hypoxia, a condition where brain tissues are not oxygenated sufficiently, due to the inadequate concentration of oxygen in the blood.

Hypoxia has various symptoms which include confusion, fast heart rate, coughing, and shortness of breath, slow heart rate sweating and wheezing (Mandal, 2018). These are some of the most common hypoxia symptoms. In the video Hypoxia-4 of spades, the test subject exhibited some of these symptoms. The main symptoms he exhibits are confusion, shortness of breath and wheezing. He is not able to respond to the questions being asked and continuously identify every card as 4 of spades (Cummings, 2011). The symptoms are an indication that he has exceeded his time of useful consciousness (TUC).

The hypoxic individual in the individual did not take any appropriate corrective measures to correct his situation. It seems he did not realize that he was experiencing hypoxia and he did not even acknowledge instructions by the other present to restore the regulator. The individual in the video despite taking the corrective measure to attend to the victim, he delayed and thus was not timely. He should have recognized this earlier, immediately the victim started ignoring questions and kept saying the card was the 4 of spades while showing it to the others. Restoring his oxygen mask was appropriate since it would ensure that the appropriate oxygen supply is restored and the victim’s condition normalized.

This video demonstrates that hypoxia can be very dangerous. Leaving an individual’s brain without oxygen disorients them making them unable to comprehend any danger. A pilot can easily cause an accident due to an inability to recognize tool in his cockpit and inability to respond to instructions. An individual experiencing hypoxia can easily die due to the oxygen deprivation
