This article addresses the quality of care that is given to children with tracheotomy. The authors indicate that previous studies have shown that families are given substandard information regarding how they should care for their children with tracheotomy. As such, this article aimed to investigate perceptions of parents and health providers with regard to health information they have concerning management, plan development, and coordination for children with a tracheotomy (Berry et al. 2011). This article employed historical data, evaluation of theoretical framework, and correlation of data from research findings to show that families and care providers were well informed about care management of children with tracheotomy because they were able to learn using healthcare information systems.

(2011) analyzed previous studies that have been conducted on the issue and discovered that it was unlikely that families would have central health records of their patients which showed information on the care that was being given to their patients with a tracheotomy . Researchers used qualitative research and employed semi-structured group interviews on parents and health providers with children that had a tracheotomy (Bell & Waters, 2014). Researchers used various evaluation methods to test the validity of their findings. For example, they used grounded theory to evaluate the information management of children with tracheotomy and correlation data among various study participants. They found that the Internet-based health records had significantly improved families’ and healthcare providers’ understanding of the care that should be given to children with tracheotomy.
