Leaders are trustworthy and can be trusted by both their leader and those they lead. They have the ability to empower others to give their best in difficult situations. Leaders are confident and speak with authority since they are empowered (Alvinius, 2017). This way they can also empower their followers. A good sense of focus is necessary since, in addition to leader others, leaders must be able to lead themselves. As such, leader may not necessarily be in the authority position; in fact, only individuals that make good followers can make good leaders.

People who cannot be good followers cannot be good leaders. Lack of leadership ability is characterized by lack of personal focus. Without direction one cannot lead themselves, let alone leading others. Individuals with no leadership abilities frequently criticize their organization, their colleague and those in positions of authority (Grossman & Valiga, 2016). Instead of providing solution or taking the lead in certain situations to correct mistakes the blame others and even fail to collaborate with their colleagues to realize common objectives. They fail to challenge illogical orders, are scared to challenge the status quo, lack confidence and have low self-esteem.

The contrast between leadership images of leaders and non-leaders shows that one group comprises of individuals who are willing to take responsibility. While the leader takes change critical situation to provide leadership, non-leaders sit back and blame others when things go wrong. Where leaders see opportunities to create new solutions, non-leader sees opportunities to criticize. Leaders encourage and motivate others whether they are their seniors or juniors, but non-leaders demoralize others. In a nutshells leaders lead to success, while non-leaders lead to failure.
