Maryland Immunization

The National Vaccine Plan (NVP) offers the public health sector a roadmap to achieving a robust healthcare system that can address the country’s vaccination immunization needs of the 21st Century. According to the Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS, 2020), the overarching goals include developing improved vaccines and enhancing vaccine safety, enabling enhanced communication to help in decision-making, improved access, and increased preventive measures. The two essential public healthcare services in the NVP include enhancing vaccine safety and promoting open access to vaccines (DHHS, 2020). The Maryland Department of Public Health, in collaboration with health organizations, including National Health Institute and The Greater Baltimore Medical Center, remains engaged in exercises to ensure that the state healthcare system remains in compliance with the two initiatives. Through research, the department has been able to carry out studies that improve vaccine safety. The National Health Institute of Health, in collaboration with GBMC, has continued to sponsor studies that seek to enhance the quality of vaccines distributed in the country. Further, The Department of Public health has ensured a reliable distribution of vaccines across the state. It provides that medical facilities such as GBMC are well resourced when it comes to vaccination programs.

The complexity of public health systems requires that all organizations under the sector function in an integrated approach. The key organizations that form the more extensive public health infrastructure include the Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OSHA) and the Environmental Protection Agency. The two organizations act as complementary institutions charged with assessing, certifying, and creating management programs for compliance purposes. OSHA, on its part, formulates and enforces safety standards within the work environment in the country. The organization ensures continuous improvement practices in work settings to guarantee worker safety. The EPA acts as a compliance agency that states that all industrial and domestic activities are within the allowable regulation limits of pollution. The EPA works to ensure that all actors reduce environmental risks that can be associated with their actions. The agency acts as a regulator in guaranteeing fair enforcement of environmental laws to safeguarding human health.
