Human sexuality is a critical aspect of human life and existence. The biological process of reproduction ensures that humans give rise to new generations. According to biology, only the sexual intercourse between a male and a female, results to reproduction. More often, males are sexually attracted to females. Sexual intercourse between a male and a female person may lead to the process of reproduction where the sperm cell from the male meets and fuses with female's egg. The sperm contains half the number of chromosomes in a human somatic cell, and so does the egg cell. A fusion of female X chromosome and Y chromosome results to a male embryo. Sexual hormones such as the androgens are important in the sexual development of an individual in various aspects such physical appearance, gender roles and in the sexual orientation of the individual. Human sexuality plays a vital role in human life and existence through reproduction.

Other significances of human sexuality include pleasure and communication. As opposed to other lower animals whose sexual desire is driven by the need to reproduce, human are not only sexually active for the mere sake of reproduction (Bullough and Bonnie, 68- 78). Bullough and Bonnie in the book, ‘ Human sexuality ’ states that human sexuality defines a lot about the nature and behavior of an individual. More often, people engage in sexual activities for other factors such as pleasure. Sex, gender and sexual orientation of an individual play an important role in sexual intercourse. Sex with the intended person provides pleasure that is in most cases, unmeasurable. Sex with the intended person also creates openness between two people and creates a pathway for communication. People with intense feelings for each other feel connected and open with each other.

In conclusion, human sexuality as described above is quite a broad topic which covers sex, gender, pleasure, sexual feelings and orientation among other aspects. Although in most cases the physical state of an individual in relation to sex defines other factors such as gender and sexual orientation, some people display dissimilar characteristics. The fusion of the male sex cell and the female sex cell gives rise to a new individual with particular sex traits depending on the type of fusion. A fusion of the female X chromosome with the male X chromosome, for instance gives rise to an embryo with female sex traits. Human sexuality plays a lot of crucial roles in human life and existence and is not limited to the aspect of reproduction alone.
