Mission and vision statements are critical elements of the strategic planning process for healthcare organizations. A mission statement provides details about the organization and what they do while a vision statement provides information about the future plans of an organization, where the organization plans to go, and how it intends to get there (Bowne, 2018). There are mission and vision statements that would be helpful for Stevens District Hospital. Strengths of Mission and Vision Statement Selected

The selected mission statement has the strength of expressing the direction and position which Stevens District would like to project. In the community. It expresses the purpose of the organization and provides measurable objectives. This complies to the requirements of the mission statement which assists leaders and employees to achieve their objectives. The mission statement shows that the organization is part of the community and that they care about the individuals that would be served. Apart from being any other healthcare institution, Stevens district will assist in building up of the community by enhancing the health and well-being of the community.

The vision statement shows that the organization desires to deliver an excellent experience with every encounter with its patients. Selecting a vision statement of offering exceptional service will ensure that the staff sets high standards during interactions with patients. They will be able to provide exceptional and excellent service for every patient that has been served.

Weaknesses of the Mission and Vision Not Selected

The other options were not selected because they have a weakness of not indicating how Stevens District is going to interact with the community. There is no reference made apart from the provision of high-quality care. Stakeholders involved in the organization would find it difficult to understand how they can provide quality care without the necessary steps.

The vision statements that were not selected focus on either providing a high level of service or a broad range of service in the county. The goals focus on how the institution can itself better in the county. Even though these goals are impressive, stakeholders would desire a vision that expresses and focuses on the patient. The vision expresses more on the nature of service without a focus on the patients. Leaving out the patients and focusing only on service quality may compromise on the nature of the service provided.

How the Mission and Vision Drive the Strategic Plan

Stevens District Hospital will make use of the new mission and vision statement as a guide to drive its strategic plan. The mission and vision statements are part of the organization’s objectives. They help the organization to achieve its goals and objectives. The mission statement is well laid out and would function as the governing principle that the organization can use to make its decisions. The focus on the community provided by the mission statement will help stakeholders and staff to consider decisions that should drive the organization. They will be able to formulate goals and objectives and come up with decisions that focus on the community aspect of the organization.

The vision statement of the organization would provide a human element that can drive the organization. Stevens District Hospital will make use of the vision statement to guide them how they treat their patients during service delivery. They will be able to structure and plan the nature of their services to ensure that it focuses on clients and patients. The organization will be able to see patients more than a means to an end but as individuals that need care and concern. When incorporated into the organization, the vision statement will enhance the strategic plan by fostering better interaction with employees and providing everyone with an exceptional experience.

The strategic plan provides a way which can direct the objectives and future of an organization. A vision and mission statement shapes the strategic plan of the organization. The strategic plan would be useless in case the mission and vision statement are not well laid out (Ginter, 2018). The mission statement used would be effective in measuring whether the strategic plan aligns with the overall goals of meeting the needs of the community. The vision statement would be used to inspire employees who would be invested in the vision of the organization.

In conclusion, the mission and vision statement selected for the organization would focus on both the community and the patients. The mission statement is applicable because it involves a commitment to the community while the vision statement involves delivery of quality service for every customer. The mission and vision statement not selected are written in general terms and do not focus on the community or that of patients. The mission and vision statement should drive the strategic plan of the organization by enabling key decisions and driving the motivation of employees.
