Discrimination and unfavorable treatment of certain minority groups based on race, religion, sexual orientation and country of origin have created a societal issue. This heinous act denies people the right job opportunities and competitive compensation models. The inability to access equal employment opportunities as enshrined in the civil rights act of 1964, leads to a disparity in income and eventually in the quality of life. Poor people are majorly associated with health issues and a shorter life span (Payne, Brown-Lannuzzi, & Hannay, 2017). The growing rate of inequalities proofs to be a real threat to the quality of healthcare because the victims resort to crime or loans to lead a quality life that weighs heavily on their mental health.

My preference for this topic is inspired by the rampant growth of workplace discrimination, which has exposed families from vulnerable groups to poor pay and benefits. This kind of discrimination has a negative impact on society since it creates a social crisis (Payne, Brown-Lannuzzi, & Hannay, 2017). Economic inequality in terms of compensation or either promotion is a serious problem, which demands effective solutions to rid out crime, higher debt consumption, and poor health.

My research proposal topic aligns with my long-term career goals as a registered nurse because access to quality healthcare is directly proportional to equality in income. To foster quality and comprehensive healthcare to all patients, the problem of employment and competitive compensation of all employees irrespective of their race, color, religion or sexual orientation creates the right capacity for everyone to afford health insurance and quality health care subsequently. In spite of notable advancements in civilization, discrimination on employment and compensation remains a social problem that requires aggressive solutions. Countries with greater percentages of equality do not struggle with access to quality healthcare and their societies tend to experience peace, reduction in crime rates and longer life span.
