Institutions are essential elements in structuring human beings in society. Institutions provide acceptable behavior in certain parts of life. Major institutions that dominate our life are education, politics, religion, family, among others. Although these institutions deal with different aspects of human life, they are related and often intersect during daily life activities. The financial support by the government for schools is a perfect example, where education interacts with politics and economics. For the existence of schools, there must be support from the government or people. Similarly, global and national institutions have played a huge part in shaping people.
Being brought up in an environment full of positive, ambitious, and optimistic people, I have taken so much from them. Just like any other person brought up in the United States, I believe in the American dream. I believe that regardless of who I am, I can attain my version of success in this ever-rising society. Through the years, the emphasis regarding the American dream at school, my parents, and politicians have shaped me to be a hard worker, risk-taker, and optimistic person. I have learned not to believe in fate, luck, and chance as religion emphasizes. I believe that achievements in the life of human beings are not determined by a supernatural being but rather the effort and dedication one places in their work.

Similarly, we are living in a world where everyone is striving to live better, become more prosperous, depending on abilities and self-achievement. Personal life experiences of people have also shaped me into a better person. Who would have imagined America having an African American president like Barrack Obama? That is absolutely a source of motivation for everyone, who may think their simple beginnings hinder them. Through this and the stick diagram, I understood our minds could control whatever we think of, our feelings, and our actions. This understanding has literary changed my life. Learning about this has helped me understand that I have the ability not only to control my feelings, actions, and dreams but also to determine how I want them to be.
Global and national institutions also advocate for equality, ethics, fair completion, and many more. Due to the need to live a better life away from trouble and conflicts, I have adopted a life that is guided by these policies. I believe in fair competition, equality, and engaging in ethical activities for not only making my life better but that of others. Living a good life does not mean enjoying life while violating the rights of others or when they are suffering. Global and national institutions advocate for the improvement of the living conditions of every single person. I fully agree with this and believe that for life to be much better, the success of others still matters––or where is the happiness in having it all and my friends have nothing?
Understanding the various institutions in life and understanding the stick diagram is essential in ensuring I continue living a positive life. All these institutions advocate for better living. For example, education enables people to become what they desire to be. Similarly, global and national institutions provide support for other social institutions by promoting conditions that foster better living. Based on this understanding, this is where I will apply the Stick diagram. It illustrates that human beings not only have the power to determine what is right and wrong but can change their dreams. I will use this ability to improve my values, which will make me a better person than I am today and possibly have a better life in the future.
