Knowledge is an essential tool in research, obtained from different sources. In the field of nursing, one can source knowledge from lectures, clinical placements, journals, books, media, clinical representatives, and practitioners from various clinical experiences. Researching and equipping oneself with knowledge are significant ways of identifying a gap in practice. This essay discusses multiple examples of informatics, data mining, and creating evidence to change the approaches used in research.
The advanced information technology has enhanced health informatics to organize and analyze data in health care organizations. Health informatics has improved health care services by providing resources, methods, and devices used in storing, gaining, retrieving, and utilizing medicine and health data ( NI, 2019 ). In clinical research, informatics is used to discover and bring about new facts concerning health and diseases. For example, a modern system in bed management allows the health center to manage their patients' census. Electronic portals also provide medical reports to patients while the Radio Frequency Identification keeps track of equipment, patients, and service providers. This information is easily accessed, thereby providing adequate data to researchers.

Data mining is another research data source that helps identify meaningful and understandable trends and patterns by exploring and analyzing sizeable clinical data blocks. For instance, health care databases provide rich information regarding patients and treatment methods ( Mdaghri et al., 2016 ). Data mining of medical records is governed by ethical issues, including obtaining informed consent and maintaining the privacy of data granted to the researchers ( Sen, &, 2018 ). Hence, no explicit consent is required from the patients since they need not understand who has accessed their data, where to be used, and how records are maintained. Therefore, there is a need to validate health care data to enhance accurate, helpful, and clean results from researchers.
Creating evidence in practice involves integrating the paramount proof from research having patients and clinical knowhow values. This suggests that health professionals' decision on patient treatment is based on their preferences, clinical knowhow, and superlative available proof ( Greenhalgh, 2017 ). For instance, oxygen use by COPD patients and infection control was based on evidence. Hence, creating proof is a problem-solving practice in health care organizations.
