The changing healthcare environment has been necessitating the need to adopt technology in healthcare, which is needed to improve quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of care provision. The industry has been facing challenges such as errors in diagnosis and treatment. At the same time, the amount of wait time that a patient spends in the hospital has been one of the issues affecting patient satisfaction (Nakhleh, 2015). This problem can be improved through the use of informatics, which improves access to medical files for physicians.

Informatics can help improve several internal operations in a health organization that enhances patient experience and quality of care. They allow for digital management of medical records, which is required to reduce the waiting time while meeting the patient needs and that of staff. Physicians need quick access to a patient’s medical records to facilitate easy decision making and care provision. The informatics makes it easier to access the patient’s information, including their medical history lifestyle and care preferences. They increase efficiency in healthcare provision by allowing complete access to the patient records, which enhances the patient’s safety (Nakhleh, 2015).

The Computer Physician Order Entry (CPOE) is an example of informatic use in healthcare. The system focuses on reducing medical errors in healthcare, which is a significant challenge for providing care. Physicians in the healthcare facility were struggling with bad handwritings that created medical errors in diagnosis and treatment of conditions. This could result in devastating implications, risking the health and safety of patients. The CPOE was introduced to prevent these errors by ensuring a uniform method of medical order placement. (Charles, Willis & Coustasse, 2014).

The implementation of CPOE contributes to higher patient satisfaction since electronic medical records improve physician performance and patient care. The devices facilitate point of care access to electronic media records, allowing physicians access to information needed to improve patient safety. The system will enable physicians to monitor the generation of patient orders, in the process, preventing and eliminating possible errors. At the same time, the process allows physicians to receive orders immediately and read them clearly (Charles, Willis & Coustasse, 2014). Physicians need correct results for laboratory tests to make a proper assessment and treatment of the patient (Nuckols et al., 2014). In this sense, the CPOE ensures that the results of these tests are accurate while ruling out even the minor errors by identifying and correcting them. This improves patient and physician satisfaction while reducing transcription errors and order duplication. It allows physicians to produce standardized, legible, and complete orders.
