Individuals have to know how to use computer and IT technologies for patient care such as data gathering, IT devices, and technical support. Computer and information technology are important to the future of nursing programs and can improve the quality and nursing profession. Throughout the nursing program, Essential IV was met through the use of teaching different technology that can be applied in the healthcare setting. The program involved familiarization with electronic health records technology and management of such data. The use of clinical information systems (CIS) was taught as the foundational framework for nursing practice.

Summary: The financial and regulatory policies are one of the most important policies that can influence the functioning and nature of the nursing practice in healthcare. The policies underlined may deal with issues pertaining to global, organizational, national, and local access to healthcare (“The Essentials of Baccalaureate Education for Professional Nursing Practice”, 2008). The essential is important because it enables the nursing graduate to have a wider knowledge regarding the organization, financing, and reimbursements during the delivery of care. The outcome for this issue was met throughout the nursing program as the graduates were able to understand different healthcare policies that have been developed and how they can be modified. Additionally, various forms of reimbursements during the delivery of care was analyzed. The current state of the health insurance was analyzed and this provided better clarity regarding various issues of health care access, affordability, equity, and social justice. The graduate was able to understand the impact of the different social policies that were formulated.

Summary: Collaboration, teamwork, and effective communication is a critical factor that can be used to facilitate care that is patient-centered. In order for collaboration to be possible, one has to first gain knowledge regarding the perspectives and roles of the nursing profession and other care professionals within the healthcare team (“The Essentials of Baccalaureate Education for Professional Nursing Practice”, 2008). Effective communication techniques were also identified as critical to the success of the nursing practice. Some of the important aspects of communication can involve negotiations, conflict resolution, and collaborative skills. The outcomes were achieved with the graduates learning about effective communication and collaborative skills that could be used to deliver patient-centered and evidence-based care. The ability of the graduate to work as a team and collaborate with other professional teams was also found as a clear indication of meeting the outcomes of the essential.
