The Hospital has a healing environment, patient safety, and high-tech health care informatics platforms to provide excellent medical care. All the adopted technological devices have improved the quality of health care in the hospital and reduced the risks that are encountered during operations in ICU units. Below are some of the devices that are highlighted in the video with their benefits and why they are important in hospitals.
Patient privacy is one of the most important factors to consider in healthcare institutions, particularly ICU patients. In many facilities, privacy is ensured through the use of curtains and double painted glass with glimes, but these come with some disadvantages ( Intelligent Hospital TV, 2014 ). The latter normally break and may need repair whereas the former get dirty and have to be changed whenever new patients are admitted. E-glass provides a solution to these problems because it does not have the aforementioned flaws. They are controlled by the nurse or doctor who is at the patients’ room just by the touch of a button. They form an opaque wall over the patient’s section thus ensuring privacy is maintained whenever it is needed. The traditional methods of ensuring privacy were also not effective because they did not account for all the aspects of confidentiality. E-glass offers sound containment qualities for patients based on how it has been developed. It, therefore, mitigates against sound distractions and disturbing sounds from other patients and staff. In addition to this, speech is also controlled and urgent care improved by minimizing the chances of patient developing anxiety, based on the sound distractions they hear.

Many hospitals face the challenge of tracking specimens and the hassles of going from one room to the lab for retrieval and receiving blood specimens from supplying hospitals. A Pneumatic tube system is very beneficial to nurses because it provides room for them to track all the specimens that are of importance to the ICU section ( Intelligent Hospital TV, 2014 ). Its effectiveness comes from the fact that it brings notifications to the screen whenever blood specimens are sent to other locations or when they arrive in the ICU. The importance of this technology is that it eliminates the likelihood of mix-ups that occur in hospitals which may have a patient receive blood that does not match their type. It also provides room for the real-time collection of samples by integrating the entire process with the information systems. Nurses and doctors can, therefore, monitor transport processes in real time and prioritize goods according to their urgency or need. Moreover, the systems also provide valuable data for internal ICU activities management by ensuring proper flow of materials and providing room for strategic planning ().
The Intelligent Hospital Pavilion has realized that many ICU departments in hospitals tend to have a challenge getting data from different pieces of equipment and linking them together so that the information is centralized for easier readings and treatment. Consequently, it introduced a system that labels all the equipment by tagging them as the information is linked to a bedside array ( Intelligent Hospital TV, 2014 ). The device is very effective in the system because it links them to the patient under treatment and displays it on a monitor that is mounted in the room so that vital information is presented whenever it is needed. Doctors cannot be able to monitor the progress of their patients just by one look of the bedside array and the display monitor and as such, it becomes easier to track the progress of their patients.
The stethoscope has been replaced as the main examination instrument in the ICU after the introduction of the Bedside sonogram machine. The device allows real-time monitoring of the body in such a way that one can be able to view the internal organs of a patient such as the lungs, heart, fluids among many others ( Intelligent Hospital TV, 2014 ). The device has been regarded as one of the most innovative technologies in the ICU because it enables nurses and doctors to provide real-time cares based on what is displayed on the screen. Medical practitioners do not, therefore, have to conduct guess works or recommend their patients to extra’s because they can monitor internal organs effectively. Apart from the fact that it facilitates quality health care for patients, the technology is also important because it eliminates the need for them to undergo x-ray procedures and be exposed to gamma rays.
Patient safety has been enhanced by the introduction of the infusion pump platform. It is imperative to note that this is a great milestone as far as medical technology is concerned because it offers more room for accuracy and efficiency, which are vital elements in health care institutions. It acts as a dosing prevention/monitoring system (guard rail system) because it has bee developed in such a manner that if a nurse has input the wrong dosage to a patient, then the system automatically blocks the dosage from being administered ( Intelligent Hospital TV, 2014 ). The introduction of this device is very critical because it eliminates the errors that are caused by nurses whenever they give incorrect doses. Patients, therefore, do not have to suffer as a result of such errors and as such, the system comes as a benefit to both sides. In addition to this, it also has a system that allows for medical prescription’s to be uploaded directly, thus eliminating the nurse’s role as far as this process is concerned. The information can, therefore, go directly from the pharmacy system to the infusion pump platform, thus increasing the accuracy of dose administration.
