From chapter 8, 12 and 13, the focus has been made on the issues related Europe’s intermodal freighting operations as influenced by inland waterway, short-seas as well as coastal shipping. These three mediums of transporting freight are quite essential in Europe since they enhance the faster transportation of goods, where traffic is shifted from the overcrowded road networks. Another benefit that these modes of freighting offer relate to the advantage of environmental conservation, where if such cargo was transported using the roads, an increase in pollution and congestion would affect the cities. Inland waterways in Europe are largely underutilized, and the use of these modes of freighting present an opportunity for reliability since the timing of cargo arriving is possible. There is also a high degree of safety realized with the inland waterways, short-sea, and coastal shipping operations.

I have also been accustomed to incredible insights on the intermodal road and rail vehicles as well as maritime vessels. Various ISO accepted sizes of containers to be carried by trailers are duly explained within the chapter, where is outlined that trailers are not permitted to exceed the 44 tons weight capacity. The intermodal vehicle capacity has to be adhered to, where vehicles that comply are plated with an approved plate. Approval requirements rail wagons and Maritimes vessels to operate within the intermodal specifications are also discussed which are essential for people interested in such freight services.

Finally, I can now understand concepts related to intermodal loading units, transfer equipment, and satellite communications are discussed. Declaration is made on standardization of intermodal transport facilities such as ISO approval of container standard, standard swap body, and international road-rail international boundaries and standards. Standardized load in units are also important in ensuring that commonality is observed when constructing various freight products. These lessons are imperative in my career as I venture into the management of various freight ideals. Understanding of the internal operations and standards required within the industry is crucial to be able to handle tasks assigned to me.
