Employment changes witnessed in New York metropolitan areas is different from other metropolitan areas in the Rustbelt. The general decline within the manufacturing sector affected employment changes in New York metropolitan areas. Loss of jobs affected the general growth in the Rustbelt, which explains the unequal income witnessed in the last century in America. Inconsistency witnessed in employment changes in metropolitan areas in New York as compared to other areas at different times was as a result of the industry mix.
Employment changes in metropolitan areas in New York occurred due to the changes caused by the Standard Industrial Code Classification System and the North American Industry Classification, which affected many industries causing job losses (Bacheller,2016). In addition, the manufacturing and private sector employment varied in New York. private sector employment growth had a negative effect on employment in the manufacturing section. manufacturing employment loss was majorly caused by the higher concentration of private manufacturing within the upstate cities as compared to the Rustbelts (Bacheller,2016). The technological invention affected employment with automation and the movement of manufacturing offshore. Such trends were necessitated by the need to cut costs to stay competitive (Bacheller,2016). The fact that New York and the Rustbelt was not an ideal location to serve other markets, manufactures preferred moving to the South and West.

Although the US registered low population growth, the population increase has been witnessed in the sunbelt states as economies revived. the US growth rate is expected to drop to 0.5 percent by 2040 (William2016). However, migration patterns contributed to higher population growth in the South and West of the U.S. as compared to other countries such as Italy, Germany, and Japan (William2016). Changes in the society after World War II have greatly influenced population growth and movement patterns causing Sunbelt expansion and Rustbelt contraction. The invention of air conditioner to keep homes and workplaces cool stimulated population growth in Florida, Texas and other southern states in the 20th century (Rosen, 2011). The demographic and geographic changes influenced the shifts between the Rustbelt and the Sunbelt. The demographical similarities in the Rustbelt with white population comprising of educated individuals for a long time influenced political decision, including voting patterns (Brownstein, 2016). This explains why resources are concentrated on the same handful of swing states in Rustbelt. Employment changes in New York's metropolitan areas compared their other metropolitan areas in the rust belt has major been determined by several factors caused by the distinctive phenomenon.
