The International Criminal Police Organization commonly known as Interpol is an international organization that is responsible for facilitating most police cooperation internationally. The Europol, on the other hand, is the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation is an international organization that handles major international organized crimes and handling of criminal intelligence. Both the organizations share the same objective which is to minimize criminal activities around the world either by providing for criminal intelligence or facilitating police corporations. They both are independent agencies that focused on fighting crime, and they both operate internationally having jurisdiction in most Europeans countries. Both organizations set up financial budgets that cross the one billion dollars, funding and facilitating their activities that are mainly to root out and minimize criminal activities. Interpol and Europol are organizations that help the government in fighting crime. Both Interpol and Europol act as middlemen to the countries they serve and provide information on various crimes and criminals. The two organizations have no arresting powers. It is the mandate of the country to make arrests (Calcara, 2013).
Europol and Interpol have quite a lot of differences besides the fact that they share the same objective of fighting and eradicating crime. In its operation, Interpol is responsible and focused on crimes like public safety and eradicating terrorism, crimes that are against humanity, war crimes, and even genocides. Interpol is an intergovernmental body and it facilitates international police organization. Interpol can track criminal downs and they have the ability to keep track of large international criminals. Europol, on the other hand, is a law enforcement agency that only serves European countries and its members. It fights serious organized crimes and handles criminal intelligence. The key difference between Interpol and Europol is their operation, while Interpol is responsible for facilitating cooperation between international police organizations; Europol is responsible for facilitating cooperation’s between international law enforcement. Interpol has been in existence since 1923 while Europol was established recently in 1999 (Teasdale & Bainbridge, 2012).
