The brain is perhaps the greatest weapon of humans. Some people have had ideas that are worth millions of dollars, and today they have nothing; they watched their ideas taken or stolen from them. In reality, this is the reason why intellectual property laws are put in place in different jurisdictions. Indeed, some predominantly adopted cultures of peopled being opportunists, joyriders, and ‘parasites can be changed so that intellectual property laws would be better protected. In fact, it is due to this reason that the intellectual property laws are instituted in the first place. This culture exists because such individuals are always creative in identifying viable opportunities and then taking advantage of them without the owners’ consent (Rosen, 2012). Apart from changing the culture of people being opportunists, the culture of greed and gluttony can be altered to ensure intellectual law properties are better protected.
International Law Enforcement bodies or organizations face a lot of challenges regarding intellectual property. Also, they face similar problems when dealing with internationally-transited products. Interpol’s Operation Jupiter portrays how some people copy other people’s product ideas and then replicate them to make profits. One major issue in such scenarios is identifying the various outlets and sources of counterfeit products. For instance, Operation Jupiter was based on more than ten countries (Interpol, 2011). As such, identifying the origin of all the counterfeit products in these nations would be almost impossible. The other challenge is the security threat of the personnel involved in the activities. Most owners or producers of counterfeit products are armed, and often willing to end lives to protect their enterprises. Finally, international co-operation is not guaranteed as some governments may be reluctant to offer any assistance to the International Law Enforcement agencies during their operations (Interpol, 2015).
