The evolution of patient care into a more interconnected practice has rendered coordination between various disciplines increasingly important (Barrow & Gasquoine, 2018). After reviewing the attached case study and various materials on professional nursing, I would describe the interprofessional practice as a collaborative exercise that takes place when healthcare providers from different departments work together with patients and their families. In simple words, interprofessional practice refers to the practice of approaching the delivery of healthcare from a team-based dimension (Verville, Palanisamy, & Taskin, 2017).

Mayo Clinic is among the largest and oldest interprofessional practice-based healthcare providers in the United States. The organization recognizes that by implementing the interprofessional practice, different disciplines can work more effectively as a team and respect each other’s perspectives thus achieve improved patient outcomes. According to the World Health Organization, the field of healthcare relies on various disciplines working jointly to meet patient needs (Thistlethwaite, 2012). Based on this, Mayo Clinic holds the position that cost of care delivery, quality of care and patient outcomes are optimized when different disciplines collaborate towards a common goal focusing on patients.

In the case of Ms. Tuckerno, the interprofessional simulation experience would be the best collaborative approach (Barrow & Gasquoine, 2018). From this case study, we can identify numerous factors that brought conflict in the management and care of the patient. As an advantage of using this approach is that it would help in the provision of team skills and experience through training concerning formative and summative simulations that can be used to establish competencies in how the professionals communicate (Verville, Palanisamy, & Taskin, 2017). Further, this model will engage professionals from different disciplines in education such that instead of administering conflicting care, they will have a common way of responding to the patient’s needs commonly.
