I work at the Nactico Healthcare Center branch in San Francisco. The healthcare organization is quite huge with numerous healthcare departments. Working as a nurse at the healthcare center, I have interacted with quite a lot of health workers in the various health disciplines in the healthcare center. I recently conducted an interview with a fellow peer working as a medical laboratory technologist at the healthcare. She provided some insight on the issues presented by the questions during the interview. She described her role in the healthcare team, professionalism and how professionalism influences her work. Through the interview, I learned a lot on professionalism and leadership qualities and practices according to June the lab technologist's perspective.
The first question presented to the interviewee was about her role in the healthcare and as a member of the healthcare team. June gave quite an elaborate answer to this question. As a medical laboratory expert, she works to ensure that all the medical laboratory tests sent to the laboratory are accurately and properly done and results provided in due time. According to her, she plays quite a huge role in the team as numerous medical tests are done in the laboratory, and without the lab, the healthcare processes may come to a standstill. June and her colleagues coordinate with other departments such as the wardrooms to ensure that every patient has been tested as required. The next question was about professionalism and how professional responsibility influences her work. June defined professionalism as the way people conduct themselves at work. According to her, people's display of professionalism may affect their careers and development and may also impact either negatively or positively on themselves, peers, management or the organization as a whole. One of the common ways of showing professionalism at work is by coming to work on time and avoiding absenteeism. June says her professionalism has won her a lot of admiration among her colleagues and the management. One is able to note the level of professionalism in June just by looking at her mode of dressing, listening to her speech, and in the way she interacts and offer assistance to her colleagues.

The next question asked about June's perspective on whether she considered the leaders of the organization as stewards of health care. According to her, the management has shown a great deal of good leadership and management. The currents leaders have contributed significantly to the swift development of the healthcare in the recent years. The leaders have shown excellent leadership and healthcare stewardship by bringing in departments such as the human resource departments. The leaders have also presented health workers in every health discipline with training sessions for improvement of the quality of services. June then concluded that she undoubtedly considers the healthcare leaders as stewards of health care. The leaders of the organization have also exercised and expressed professional advocacy and authenticity in their work according to June.
It is quite important for leaders to exercise the qualities of professional advocacy and authenticity, as well as power and influence while at work. Such qualities help align other colleagues at work and also bring them more closely to the leaders. Professionalism, as described by the interviewee, refers to the proper conduct of people at the workplace. A good display of professionalism may win individual better opportunities in the workplace. As a healthcare professional, one must report on time for work, attend to clients with respect and without discrimination, interact with colleagues professionally and most importantly, dress accordingly. Just like any other health care professional, one must know well his or her role in the healthcare team.
