Code enforcement officers perform considerable tasks both in small and large cities. Specifically, they are charged with the enforcement of various local policies to guarantee compliance. Indeed, their primary motive is to ensure that the community they serve is safe. From my interview with one of the law enforcement officer, I got to learn a lot of intrigues including challenges the officers face, the importance of Codes in municipalities and how the enforcement officers ensures that people are treated fairly when enforcing Codes.

One of the main challenges facing the code enforcement officers that were apparent from the interview are the legal issues. In particular, the officers have issues in case development. The major problem revolves around how to initiate and investigate a Code enforcement cases properly. The other legal challenge is on evidentiary issues. Specifically, the standards of evidence required in a Code enforcement case a times are not easy to attain. The other challenge is lack of compliance from the public. Particularly, some people find it hard to comply with simple directives making life hard for the enforcement officers. Also, there are instances where the enforcement officers do not understand the particulars of the Code being enforced due to the complex nature of Codes and sometimes as a result of low education levels of the enforcement officers.

Codes are necessary in the municipalities to ensure that the local communities are safe. Particularly, Codes serve to address the issues which the general laws of the land fail to capture because of their uniqueness to some setting ( Galenieks, 2017) . Additionally, some Codes implement the wider law on a given issue. Quintessentially, Codes preserve order amongst the local communities living in municipalities.

The question of fairness is essentially common in any law enforcement adventure. For this reason, I got to learn from the interview that there are instances where fairness is not attained in the course of enforcing municipal Codes. Even then, law enforcement officers ensure fairness by maintaining fidelity to the applicable laws and Codes in question.
