The demographic profile of typical criminals

Male domination

Violent crime is a crime in which offenders threatens to employ force towards the victim. Typical criminals have relatively similar profiles making it possible to draw some common characteristics of the offenders. To begin with crime is mostly a male dominated business with a few cases being reported to be perpetrated by females. According to statistics from police departments, the female share of homicides and attempted homicides reported shows that homicides as being mainly perpetrated by men ( Dostoyevsky, & Katz, 2018) . Research indicates that homicides committed in public places have a strong bias for men perpetrators while those committed within the family circle indicate that more women are found as the perpetrators.

Working-class families

In many cases as depicted by continuous studies, homicides happen in families that are working with very few homicides committed in economically inactive families. Studies have revealed that often the blue-collar workers, as well as white-collar workers, rank top in homicide cases.

School leaving perpetrators

Documented information point out to a possible wrong starting in social life given the high numbers of homicide perpetrators who have just left school often with low levels of education. It can be concluded that the perpetrators started with a failure in school and hence the numerous challenges they encounter in economic integration.

Childhood life circumstances

Research shows a positive correlation between homicide perpetrators and negative childhood encounters. According to Dostoyevsky and Katz (2018), statistical evidence reveals that in many cases the homicide perpetrators were raised by third parties, either foster parents or in the homes for the youth by educators. Such childhood circumstances point out to a possible tendency towards depression, immaturity as well as emotional deprivation.

Location of crimes

Scholars have made several conclusions about crime among the many conclusions is the fact that any community that has existing social incompatibilities and discrepancies will always have criminal activities. However, it can be seen that some locations harbor more criminal activities than others. One of the locations that have high crime rates in the urban areas. Studies have revealed that the urban area's institutions such as religion and family that act to keep the society gradually fall apart forming the basis for crime to thrive ( Dostoyevsky, & Katz, 2018) .

To start with the urban environment has over time been viewed by criminals as alluring and convenient for committing crimes creating a positive correlation between crime and the urban environment. In densely populated towns, control is difficult providing a good environment for crime to thrive since it does not require much effort to successfully stage a crime. Studies have proven that the plenty of money acquired through crime is much in the urban areas since the chances of being caught are low given that the security apparatus fall short of equipment and employees. The high populations of high-income class make committing crime a lucrative venture.

Studies have indicated that some spaces produce crime by being constantly in chaos coupled with a dense population thus achieving physical qualities suitable for crime development. Such locations usually have an attraction characteristic of crime since criminals are attracted to such locations providing the right context for criminal activities to thrive. Additionally, crime-prone areas often do not have behavioral rules and where existent are few creating opportunistic behaviors easing attraction and formation of crimes ( Schauer, 2018) .

Explanations for crime

Scholars have put forward several reasons why individuals engage in crime. One such reason for committing a crime is the immediate longing for gratification. A potential criminal develops the urge to follow personal desires at the expense of the good relationship with the surrounding population and thus developing an increased reduction in guilt for actions taken. In some instances, criminals will engage in crime to enjoy the pleasure of injuring and intimidating victims. Other studies depict that criminals will engage in crime given a desire to gain a status, especially among the peers.

Some theorists postulate that criminals just decide to commit crimes not motivated by economic interests or otherwise. The proponents of the choice theory indicate that in many cases individuals who commit crime weigh the punishments against the possible benefits of committing a crime consequently making a choice to proceed with a criminal action ( Schauer, 2018) . According to the choice theory, a potential criminal is not deterred by the possible punishment that will follow the criminal activity once caught.

Documented studies suggest that crime may be caused by retribution motives. The conflict theory suggests that crime emanates from the presence of conflicts in the society due to the social stratification ( Schauer, 2018) . In the conflict theory, economic and social forces are observed to be the main drivers of criminal activities within a society. It would be true to suggest that some individual commit crimes out of desperation as a measure of survival. Economic inclinations for committing crimes play an integral role in making criminal activities to happen. Studies show that criminals will engage in crime to earn a living or money to purchase drugs.
