Question: Do you agree that marriage is essential for a strong society? Why or why not? Should anything be done to change the "retreat from marriage?
I concur, marriage today has lost its value for people prefer to have their union casual and not documented. As a result, marriage and divorce rates in the world have reduced tremendously. In my opinion, the rate of separated families and single parent families have highly increased only that no documentations exist because initially the union was never official. Therefore, marriage has a role in keeping families together and also ensuring that a society’s people easily co-exist with each other.

Marriage creates a responsibility between partners and ensures that they both play their role in protecting their promise to each other. Without marriage, the partners easily back out of their union effortlessly and this is one of the reasons why a lot of families have been broken in the recent times. On the other hand, the society has lacked good role models to the younger generations, in showing them how to fight for unity and its importance; a skill that is mostly learned from their daily experiences in their families. Children learn a lot from observation in families that are married and they get to understand the roles of a mother, father and theirs in the family and also in the society. However, in single parent families only certain family members are represented in the setup and as a result, a child in such, can easily have less recognition and respect for the missing gender.
Therefore marriage plays an important role in keeping the society together by ensuring that children learn from it the various roles and responsibilities of their parents (women and men) in the family and also in extension to the society. Additionally, they learn how to co-exist with other people despite their differences, uniqueness or similarity. As a result, people should be enlightened on the importance of marriage at length in religion, social platforms, and even through press to ensure that marriage regains its value and recognition in the society. Maybe the government should support such a movement by introducing incentives or rewards for married couples, for example, some percentage of tax exemption just to encourage more people to marry and create a positive influence in making the society stronger.
