Residential care according to the Collins English Dictionary is defined as the provision of care of an individual, be it a child, adult or elderly person, who is not able to receive the same at home and thus, attains the same in a home setting that is supervised buy social workers. There are many Residential Care facilities across the globe each having its own fair share of issues. Among them is the Northeast Parent and Child Society located on Park Avenue in the City of Schenectady.

The facility is mainly dominated by teens and provides family based care. However, it has been riddled with administrative issues where the Personnel are unable to control the Residents. In 2016, there was a recorded number of 406 calls in 2016, from the facility to the Police requesting aid and assistance within the Facility (Nelson, 2017). To this, the CEO of the Home stated that at times, Federal aid is required due to the nature of the care being provided. However, the calls have attracted the interest of the City Council man who is interested to know the reason behind all these calls to the Police from neighbors and pother staff members located within the facility (Nelson, 2017).

The CEO continued to explain that the employees are in a position where they receive specialized training to address and handle the conditions and challenges presented in such a setting. However, the intervention of the Police and other Emergency response members may be required. However, I disagree partly with the situation. In a Residential Care facility, there should be adequate control over the residents (Grainger, 2009). The policies presented in the facility should be implemented. In this way, each resident is assigned a specific nurse to ensure they are properly and well taken care of. The presence of misbehavior such as theft is an indication of poor control by the nurses and hence showing poor management of residents within the facility.

To this, the Management of the Facility should review its policies and regulations. Ensuring the personnel hired is well trained in the art of care provision as well as active care and management of the residents’ behavior within the facility.
