I agree with the theory of philosopher John Locke about human beings being born with a blank slate. As a baby grows up, they start to learn things through listening to others, experiences, and being taught as well as from the surrounding. Interacting with people and surrounding imprints knowledge in mind and, it is gained with age and exposure to the world. Learning is done through simple ideas which are then combined into complex ones. It can be explained by career, for instance; one cannot just start treating people, indication that they have innate knowledge. A person has to undergo property education and training so that they can provide high-quality medical attention. It is thus clear that as a person learns and gains knowledge, it is added to their mind and stored for later use.

The idea that Locke introduced on using practical learning to enable people to manage their political, economic, and social affairs are the best. Practicals enable individuals to learn exactly what is expected of them, thus improving their lives. Since learning starts at birth, it means that early childhood education is very important. Children are taught in reading, writing, and arithmetic. Early childhood education sets the basis for future learning and how knowledgeable an individual will become as they grow up. The individuals who have received higher education levels such as masters and Ph.D. are more knowledgeable in comparison to those who did not have all the education. An individual who has worked for more years at a company also has more knowledge in comparison to a newly hired employee. It is thus clear that as an individual keeps on gaining new information depending on exposure. John Locke’s theory does not diminish free will. As an individual gets exposed to new knowledge, they are able to choose between possible causes of actions without being hindered by any factors (Editorial Board, 2015).

At work, I decided on forming a group where my colleagues and I would empower each other. We could meet at the lunch break or after work and discuss the issues we were facing and find a solution. It helped on improving our work relationship and communicates about issues to the management better. However, my free will was compromised when the management indicated that the group was not to meet anymore.

I made the decision due to reduced communication between the employees and the management. Most of the issues we faced in the company were not addressed, and workers were losing motivation. I felt that we were wasting too much time on a project, yet we would have reduced the time if we worked as a team.

To resolve the issues, I contacted the supervisor and explained the problem the employees were facing, and that would make them start quitting work. I also explained that slowness in work and lack of motivation would be costly for the company. In turn, the supervisor contacted the management and made them learn that the group was not for incitement but helpful to employees and the company.

When there is a conflicting feeling about the actions to take in a given situation. Free will should not be forced as it may differ with established rules or norms (Editorial Board, 2015). It is essential to consult the situation from a different perspective and find common grounds such as explain where certain actions should be taken.
