Does John Terrill’s leadership style fit the definition of leadership in Exhibit 1.1? Is it part of a leader’s job to manage upward? Explain.

The management approach that John portrays matches the leadership described in Exhibit 1.1. John develops a healthy connection with the engineers. At the same time, he persuades the top administration to get rid of reports as they are a waste of time. It is part of the roles of a leader to manage upward. When a manager assists their top supervisor to accomplish the goals of the company, more rewards are available for the leaders and the staff.

With respect to Exhibit 1.4, in what leadership era is Terrill? In what era is headquarters? Explain.

The management era exhibited by Terrill is Era 4, which is in the new paradigm. The leader inspires his subordinates, develops a reliable and honest relationship, and creates an effective performance. Terrill acknowledges change because he considered the views of the engineers.

What approach would you have taken in this situation? What do you think the response of the senior executives will be to Terrill’s action?

I would have used a complaisant approach in this circumstance. The reaction of the top leaders would be aggressive and of a negative impression towards the way that Terrill governs. According to the new paradigm, frontrunners prioritize people and relationships with colleagues.

If you were a top leader, how would you respond to the ultimatum? Be specific. Explain why.

While a top manager, I would request the members for an opportunity to have a discussion with Marshall. I will get a clear understanding of narratives from both players. If the situation persists, I will accept the resignation of the team players.

What is Marshall missing with respect to his leadership abilities? How do you explain his poor leadership behavior?

The leadership abilities depicted by Marshall show there is a lack of team work. The adverse effect on the morale and creativity of the members leads to the loss of gifted employees and a resentful working environment. To achieve the goals of the company, an atmosphere of cooperation is essential between team members rather than the fulfillment of individual objectives.

If you were Marshall’s manager, how might you increase Marshall’s awareness of the negative impact he is having on his team? How would you guide him toward better team leadership, sharing his knowledge with others, and mentoring his team members?

While a supervisor to Marshall, I would clarify to him how his poor leadership style harms the other members. I would further explain the benefits attainable if he develops a healthy relationship with the employees. The main aim is to help Marshall understand that his subordinate staff looks up to him due to his experience and that they have the will to work with him. However, due to the lack of teamwork and communication, the members find it hard to corporate with Marshall.
