The law provides guidelines on how a case should be heard and solved within a court. In the juvenile justice system, there are juvenile court processes that are observed when cases are being solved. They include pretrial, trial and sentencing.

Pretrial

In this stage, the juvenile judge makes decisions on whether to release, detain, waive, retain or dispose the minor. The juvenile court dismisses the case if it finds the minor harmless to the community. The minor can also be detained in correction facilities that resemble the prisons. The detention is meant to be rehabilitative.

Trial

The cases that were not solved in the pretrial stage are forwarded to the trial stage. The cases are petitioned with the belief that the minor may require supervision of the court or to prove the minor’s delinquency state. Evidence is presented to support this petition under the rule of beyond a reasonable doubt’. The juvenile judge makes a ruling out of the evidence submitted. This ruling may be reached in three ways. They include:

A revelation that a minor requires the supervision of the court or a proof of the minor’s delinquency state.

A revelation that the juvenile requires the supervision of the court .

Dismissal of the petition due to either inadequate evidence or evidence that is faulty.

Sentencing

The sentencing or disposition stage is conducted in such a way that it is in the best interest of the minor. Here, the juvenile court stipulates the kind of juvenile correction to be given to the minor. The juvenile judge requests the probation department to formulate the presentence report that helps the probation department in deciding on the best juvenile correction for the minor and also builds up knowledge that is made available to all correctional officers to help them rehabilitate the minor. The juvenile probation officer then decides on the best correctional method for the minor with the help of the data collected in the presentence report.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the juvenile justice system provides a set of juvenile court processes that must be followed by the probate courts when solving juvenile cases. These juvenile court processes include pretrial, trial and sentencing.
