The living conditions in Tony’s home has caused him to be troubled and adopt a new kind of lifestyle over a long time. Tony’ illicit behavior is consistent and has evolved due to lack of regulations in his environment. The best thing for Tony at this stage is juvenile rehabilitation due to his age which allows him to make drastic changes in his life hence it is a good thing that he was caught (Lewis, 2012).
These rehabilitation centers are comparable to detention centers which allows for an individual to correct their behavior versus being punished for a bad behavior. However, rehabilitation centers are more favorable as they are friendlier with the techniques used here are more proactive and very positive. This place is good for Tony as it would present him an opportunity to rebuild his life into a healthier and normal lifestyle. The best environment for Tony would be one that teaches him positive attributes and has legal frame works and the activities conducted are legal to allow him to be a law abiding citizen.

Taking him through this program would present him the chance to experience a different kind of lifestyle from the one he used to live with his parents who exposed him to illegal activities (Harris, 2014). Instilling positive attributes like being responsible and having a good character is a good technique that would allow him to gain worthiness and have a good direction in life. This technique is important as it would allow him to redevelop his skills and lead him back to school. These are what are taught at these centers allowing one to live free from illegal activities (Lewis, 2012).
This case study shows that Tony’s illegal behavior is mainly because of his home environment and irresponsible up-bringing ("William Graham Sumner on Responsible and Irresponsible Parenting", 2017). Tony’s family has demonstrated that they are not a good influence on Tony hence they should not be part of his treatment and should also be locked away for treatment. All that Tony needs is a responsible relative who would be there for him to provide him the moral support which would allow him feel free and comfortable during this treatment.
In light of Tony’s situation, his home environment is not conducive for his rehabilitation and recovery thus he should be admitted to a rehabilitation center for treatment. His environment is not healthy for his treatment as it is full of drugs and other illegal activities. Tony’s way of thinking and behavior will change as he will experience a normal kind of life different from his environment. These rehabilitation centers have military training program which are taught the juveniles hence Tony will learn vital order and respect techniques. Most of these juveniles lack attention hence they are effectively attended to and leadership skills are instilled in them (Lewis, 2012).
Same environment do not help in recovery and behavior change hence if Tony was to remain at home he would still be the same or even worse (Hamilton, 2015). Therefore, change is vital in this process to allow transformation so environmental change is inevitable. Tony will present some resistance at first when forced to live away from home and will not comply with the program but he will slowly accept things and follow the routine which will benefit him. Being forced put comfort zone can be very hard. Tony’s life will change for the best after presenting some struggle during the program (Lewis, 2012).
People with similar addiction come together to tell their stories and experiences and make a step towards recovery while maintaining sobriety from addiction in both alcohol anonymous and Narcotics anonymous. These organizations are anonymous, free, and comfortable and open to public as it tries to change lives. Weiner’s attribution theory seems to be the best fit for these organizations though there are numerous cognitive learning and behavioral theories. Through a cognitive learning theory, Weiner’s Attribution theory modifies behavior. According to him, people trying to rehab their lives can do this through evaluating and changing their perception.
Changing the perception they hold about them is key according to Weiner’s theory. Additionally, interpretation of success and disappointment will be influenced. He further state that future endeavors and behaviors will be influenced. He also believes that this behavior can be “stable or unstable”, “internal or external”, or “controllable or uncontrollable”. He believes that in whatever environment an individual lives in controls the image they have about them and this may be a determiner of failure or success in their lives. For this addiction case, the addicts are in a better position to move on from their past life due to the environment provided which is conducive and allows for sobriety hence success is achieved.
The techniques used in these rehabilitation centers are vital as it helps the addicts rebuild their lives and self-image in a new light and aiding in the transformation of their lives. The juvenile rehabilitation centers provide a cognitive learning theory reforming the lives of the juveniles and their behaviors (Instructional Design, 2012). These institutions are key to the development of these juveniles as it is holistic and focused towards development of the juveniles.
