In the contemporary world of medicine, there has been an increased attention on the kind of physician–patient relationship that exists. Of critical concern is bioethics, which enjoins doctors to use their expertise and power in the healing process of the sick and not to cause any harm whatsoever, so that life could be preserved and the information contained in the process kept confidential from any external access.

Bioethics uses ethical theories in philosophy that pertain to some of the most common challenges encountered in clinical medicine. According to most philosophers in the field of medicine, bioethics is the modern application of philosophy since it deals with moral aspects of the field of clinical research. The application of bioethics is depended on a set of principles that often guide character in the field of medicine. Secondly, the principle of beneficence observes two basic rules. The first rule states that physicians “should not harm” their patients whereas the second rule insists that all energies expended should target improvement of the condition of the patient by offering benefit and at the same time minimizing any possible risk in the process.

The third principle is that one of justice which state that all the burdens and benefits of a given project must be equally distributed whenever possible, based on the individual needs, societal contribution, effort expended and merit. With the emergence of current technology, care should be taken to avoid jeopardizing human life, since some scientists could assume the power of human life to be at their mercy through experimentation. Bioethics therefore, acts as the guiding principles to the physician-patient conduct in the case of decision making.
