Discipline of Kinesiology

Some of the world`s greatest innovators including Leonardo Da Vinci have been involved in the study of physical movements with an aim of reinventing this discipline. Kinesiology basically entails the relationship that exists between the movement of human entities and anatomy. This area of study focuses on the specific movements made by non-human body parts. Some of the main components in this subject involve biophysical, behavioral and sociocultural scopes. The essence of Kinesiology involves its ability to address the various forms of movement. This is one of the most effective disciplines of the medical field which has assisted experts in understanding the physical orientation of various parts of the human body and how they function while propelling an individual. Further intrusion into the study reveals the existence of a variety of sub-disciplines which will be illustrated below.

Sub Disciplines

The subdisciplines of Kinesiology enable learners to utilize the appropriate skills when remedying some of the encounters they come across. One such mechanism involves sports history. This mainly entails the physical education relating to past physical activities. Secondly, adapted physical activity is another important sub-discipline which consists of the incentives taken to assist physically impaired individuals. The physical education pedagogy, on the other hand, brings about a comparative form of learning where individuals learn from each other. In addition to this, another sub-discipline is motor development where people develop movement in the course of their lifetime. Other components such as exercise physiology apply psychological concepts while studying movement. Further still sports sociology is also a part of the whole agenda since it pertains to the impact that sports engender on the society. One other important sub-discipline is the sports medicine which encompasses the measures that can be used in the prevention and treatment of injuries in the sports sector.

Psychological influences of exercise in sport and physical activity

It is apparent that incorporation of physical exercises in sports can influence a person’s ability in a particular sport. In regards to Kinesiology, some aspects such as physical therapy can be integrated and in the process manage to remedy an injury caused by a sports activity in a way that no form of medical intervention can. This form of treatment has a psychological influence which appeals to the mental capacity of a person and enables them to relate various forms of exercises as a way of inducing healing. For example, if a basketball player injures their ankle, they can engage in exercise that alleviates the pain around the ankle and also manages to incorporate more strength that finally results in the restoration of one`s former self.

To belabor on the above precept, engaging in physical exercise manages to build confidence among individuals hence enabling them to tackle particular sports or physical activity appropriately. Take, for instance, a situation whereby an individual has not prepared adequately to participate in a certain sports activity. There is a high chance that they will not perform as well as they could have if they had practiced. This is because exercising has the psychological ability to eliminate doubt and offer self-assurance to people that they will excel in an activity, even when they are not well prepared. The mind controls the movement and activity of various body part, and, therefore, in a similar way it also has a significant influence on the sporting activities.

Use of theoretical model to explain the process of skill learning through measurement and evaluation.

The process of skills learning encompasses developing oneself and embracing the necessary set of abilities which will enable a person to excel in whatever they plan to achieve. Various theoretical models have been established with an aim of explaining the aforementioned process. It is, nonetheless, imperative to note that through measurement and evaluation, skills can be learned and utilized. More often than not people mistakes skills for talent. In a majority of the cases, what one might view as a talent may have resulted from thousands of hours of intensive work, which later culminates to the development of a particular skill set.

The Fitts and Posner's theoretical model is to be used in this case. Based on the above-mentioned elements, this will encompass a series of steps. The first stage is the cognitive stage. It involves an attempt by an individual to control their conscious. In the same domain, movement will be broken down into different stages. The movements get completed with an allowance being made for error in relation to the skill performed. This will be followed closely by the associative stage where a person manages to embrace a decreased level of reliance on their memory. Similarly, the movement also tends to become recurrent with measured practice being adopted. Finally, the autonomous stage will be attained by exhibiting minimal effort in cognitive ability of individuals, along with the enhanced decision making. This will, later on, offer individuals a greater capacity to detect errors in the skills they attain thus leading to the completion of the learning process.

Summary

It is apparent that the kinesiology is arguably one of the most interactive processes which despite its complexity, assists both learners and experts in comprehending the process of movement. The various sub-disciplines of this concept ensure that individuals are well equipped with the required level of knowledge they require to remedy certain situations. Further still, measurements and evaluation are adopted in the process of skill learning. In order to incorporate skills among learners, the Fitts and Posner's model is utilized and in the end, skills are cultivated amongst individuals. It is fundamental to note that this would not be possible had it not been for Kinesiology. There is, thus, no doubt that it is one of the most important subjects.
