In the society today, there are differences between people because of globalization and migration. People are now discussing diversity and how it has resulted in tensions between various groups. The extreme tension is often brought out by hate groups which take advantage of stereotypes of a group of people. In many cases, they use the generalities in their efforts and usually opt to violently prosecute those who they consider being different from them. There are many groups in the United States that operate in such ways, where most of them advocate for white supremacy. The overall goal of these groups is often to advance the white race through the process of segregating other cultures from the society. One of the best-known groups in Texas and the United States is the Ku Klux Klan or the KKK. More specifically, the group’s branch in Texas is very active in Gatesville.

Description of Ku Klux Klan

Founded in the year 1866, the Ku Klux Klan is one of the well-known hate groups that have a long history of being violent. In addition, it is considered to be infamous and the oldest hate groups in the United States (The Southern Poverty Law Center, 2017). It is estimated that by the year 2016, the number of KK groups was 130. The main mission of this group is to advocate and re-establishment of the white supremacy. It is well known for parades, marches, and rallies that are aimed at denouncing immigrants, organized labor, Jews, blacks, and Catholics. However, some of the methods used by the group are violent such as the bombings of churches and black schools in the 1960s ( Wade, 1998) .

Target Populations

The main group that has been targeted by the KKK includes the black Americans. Other groups include immigrants, gays and lesbians, Catholics, and Jews. The group has been responsible for many incidences in the past because of its violent nature. One of the worst incidents that were done by a former KKK leader called Frazier Glenn Miller, Jr. was the murder of three people in the year 2014 after shooting people at a local Jewish Community Center. The most recent incident that was seen in Texas was the distribution of threatening vigilante fliers that called for torture of every university leader that advocated for diversity (Nashrulla, 2016). The fliers were posted in bathrooms all over Texas State University after Donald Trump won the elections. The incidences indicate the need to find ways of mitigating the impact.

Mitigating the Impact of Hate Groups

Human service workers can prevent the impact of hate groups by discouraging people from joining such groups and advocating for their beliefs. Increased knowledge about the effects of the activities of such groups often helps people understand how their actions affect their victims and thus helps them avoid the groups. The best intervention method is calling the authorities once the hate group has been spotted while targeting an individual or a group of people which will allow for uniform and rapid response. It is vital to note that victims of such crime often need medical attention in cases of physical harm and counseling so that they can get over the experience.

Conclusion

Evidently, hate groups are not productive in any society because they bring hatred among people and fear among their victims. Groups such as the KKK should be discouraged from the society because of their violent and discriminatory ways. People need to be educated on the harmful effect of such groups so that they do not join them. Authorities also need to be called once they the spotted doing their activities so that they act rapidly.
