Functionalism: For about two decades, the Cannes Film Festival in France released the movie-La Haine. Through the cinematography innovation of Mathieu Kassovits, the social and political message in this film is very clear. The film has been used to demonstrate the “long” forgotten well-being of the minority group in the society. It focuses on the forgotten and misdirected youth of the banlieues of Paris and their daily struggle for survival.

Conflict: The conflict in ‘La Haine’ can be analyzed in terms of poverty, and power. The movie is set in a manner that it is not clear on who is more powerful among the police as the authority figures and rioters in the streets. Initially, racist violence seemed to be the film trigger. However, this disappears to unite the three characters in their societal exclusion. Further, from the beginning, the three characters want to gain power in one or another in order to progress their life and live better. Vinz wants to attain power such that he will fear, Saiid is fighting for his survival in Banlieue, and Hubert wants to be successful even if it means going out of Ban lieu.

Feminist Perspective: First, with the reference to the discourse of November 2005 riots, “youth” have been conceptualized as entirely male. According to the director Kassovitz, too much involvement of women would have detracted the purpose and the serious of the movie. Therefore, the film ignored the aspect of women opposition to violence and also the plight of women as the victims of male violence.

Interactionism: The three characters depicted in the film are not fundamentally criminals or bad people, not particularly violent. Instead, it is because of the social status that they have become marginalized. In some scenes, the confrontational attitude towards police is clearly portrayed as they are unable to connect with different aspects of French society. Vinz seems to be the angriest character who want to take revenge for his friend if they were to die. Said is struggling to fit and be accepted by the group although his personality is unfit. On the other hand, Hubert shows the philosophical character and thus, he acts as the moral counter piece. The gun is the symbol that Vinz is just a "ticking time bomb" and his aggression and anger can be triggered by a small action which may intern explode into violence.
