Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, professionally referred to as Lady Gaga is an actress songwriter and singer of American descent. She is known for her unique musical ideas, most of which are bold and provocative.
I will be dissecting her music piece, Born this way, which goes a long way to describe gender and sexuality on a whole new level.

With its booming bass, addictive hook, and irresistible club beats, "Born This Way" sounded the way any club banger pop song is supposed to, but its progressive lyrics transitioned the popular track into the powerful pro-LGBT, anti-self-denial anthem which frowned upon prejudice, which is what Gaga intended it to be.
Born this way is the original work of Lady Gaga herself and Jeppe Laursen who, together with Fernando Garibay and White Shadow, produced it on 11th February 2011. This lyrics highlight self-empowerment of minority groups among them women, some racial minorities both of Asian and Latino origin and the L.G.B.T community, who had given Lady Gaga a lot of support over the years. Born this way is one of the best-selling singles of all times, having sold 8.2 million copies across the world.
The lyrical content of Born this way arises about acceptance without borders with a very keen interest on homosexuality and tolerance for the L.G.B.T culture. The scope of the video goes to unveil more of what there is to the subject of sexual orientation. We see the video beginning with the superposition of two evocative symbols; Pink triangles pointing downwards were used a long time ago in the Nazi concentration camps to denote men attracted to fellow men. The same pink triangle pointing upwards presently associates with not only pride of the gay but also their rights.
On an esoteric level, triangles facing downwards are archetypal symbols representing the sacred feminine, as opposed to the triangle facing upwards which represents the phallic masculine. L.G.B.T are the initials of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender.
Lady Gaga’s release, Born this way, is crucial because it brings out the urgency to eradicate discrimination based on sexuality and sexual preferences. It sensitizes people on rights of all human beings, members of the L.G.B.T culture included. All over the globe, millions of people are faced with violence and inequality and sometimes torture and in worse scenarios excommunication solely because of who they love, what they want to be, their appearance, or their persona. Both sexual orientation and gender identity are vital aspects of our selves and should not be grounds for either discrimination or abuse. Lady Gaga emphasizes that this should not be the case.
Listening to Lady Gaga's born this way, one may not immediately realize what it is about unless they pay attention to both the video and the lyrics. Personally, at first, I had not thought about it very deeply as a piece that was motivated by sexuality until I watched the video repeatedly and listened to the words carefully.
The subject of sexuality in light of the L.G.B.T culture has been and continues to be debated upon day in day out. Many Christian countries resent this culture. Lebanon, for instance, felt so offended by the release of this video and its lyrics that it banned the content from being sold in its stores. The government of Lebanon described it as an insult to Christianity.
Nonetheless, there are countries that have legalized same sex marriages, so much that they have embedded it in their legislations. The most recent of this countries is Germany, which made same sex marriages via legislation on June 30 th 2017.
Gender and sexuality is a subject whose discussion is not about to be concluded. More countries continue to add to the list of those that have decided to embrace same sex relations to the extent of including it in legislations. Unlike the previous years, L.G.B.T is becoming a normal culture. This is not among the things which could have been mentioned, let alone practiced, centuries ago.
The human rights societies are also encouraging the spread and protection of this gospel. They continue to sensitize and empower those who subscribe to this culture. Today, it is all over the internet, that Gay rights are human rights.
It is clear that the freedom to choose so many things, including gender is rapidly growing and spreading like a bush fire.
