Project group success depends on the leadership characteristics of the individuals tasked to lead the team. The desirable traits that enhance project group success include excellent communication skills, relentless focus, authenticity, and transparency. First off, leaders who have excellent communication skills can control their groups and ensure that they communicate their goals, vision, plans, and strategies timely and in an efficient manner. Moreover, good communication skills enable leaders to have good social intelligence skills, which are very key for project group success (Goleman & Boyatzis, 2008). An example of leadership with excellent communication is depicted by having an approachable leader that relates well with his team members. Secondly, a good leader should have a relentless focus on project goals, as well as individual objectives. Thus, great leaders also focus on influencing their strengths, and those of the team (IHI Open School, 2015). An example of a leader with relentless focus is one who puts his mind and energy to ensuring that the set objectives are achieved. Lastly, leaders should be transparent with the project team to ensure members performs the project tasks effectively. Efficiency is enhanced because project members can point out their views without fear of the leader (Institute of Healthcare Improvement- IHI, 2013). An example of a transparent leader is one who is able to identify the strengths and flaws of the project team and use the knowledge to empower the team.

Student 1: Alicia

I agree with Alicia that for a group to succeed then the leader should possess the traits of being adaptive and delegating. A leader should be adaptive to ensure they can easily acclimatize with the changing business environment. Delegating work to team members enhances their trust on the leader as well as performance in the project. A leader that has both characteristics is able to attain loyalty and trust of his team members.

Student 2: Rosalee

I agree with Rosalee that a group project leader should have characteristics of adaptability, honesty, and delegating for the success of the team. These three traits enable a leader to have a smooth and seamless cooperation with the project team. Furthermore, a honest leader not only inspires his group, but also the clients because they require transparency on how the project is being performed.
