The Ad Hominem is a logical erroneous belief whereby an argument is rebutted by attacking character, motive, or any attribute of the person making an argument, or the person incorporated with the argument, rather than criticizing the substance of the argument itself (Michael, 2010). The fallacy is the use of fallacious or otherwise faulty reasoning, or wrong moves while constructing an argument (Frans, 2009). Some mistakes are committed intentionally to manipulate while others are performed unintentionally due to ignorance or carelessness. An appropriate use of ad hominem attack can be justified whereby the attack of the argument being made is not intentionally or unintentionally attacking the person, but it is based on the fact of the case as the individual does not only draw conclusions according to his thoughts but according to the facts.
The sprite advertisement done by Drake who is a rapper has got several fallacies such as logical fallacies; in the ad, Drake who is a rapper enjoys drinking Sprite soda. Drake being a great rapper and its fans accepting that sprite soda is worth buying, therefore to be a rapper you should drink Sprite, this is an intentional fallacy sine it is known that is impossible to become a rapper because of drinking sprite. Instead of basing the argument on the sprite soda people are attacking rapper Drake, and this portrays Ad Hominem Fallacy. The logical fallacy is used in this advertisement to draw people’s attention and make more people buy and drink Sprite soda especially aspiring rappers and Drake fans as they will be attracted more to Drakes behavior. The behavior and character of the individual occur naturally; sometimes a person action can be triggered the occurrence of another thing. For example, some people, when drunk are more talkative than when they are not thus the person, is only talkative when drunk.
