The population of the world is aging. Population growth of older people is virtually being experienced in all the countries of the world. Population aging is significantly going to create social transformations come the year 2030, with services such as housing, transport, labor and financial sector being the most affected. As the world keeps on changing, there is a need for a change in the health care system to carter for the old in the future. Leiyu Shi in her book; Delivering Health Care in America, she advocates for long term care services that need to be officiated (Shi, 2019). This paper seeks to expound on the type of services that need to be enhanced to service this population in the coming years.
According to Leiyu, there should be various alternative living arrangements that should be formulated to address different care needs. Retirement living centers need to be developed. As this name suggests, formulating this service will meet the housing needs of older people in society. The advantage of improving this service compared to ordinary housing is that this has features that are adapted to their physical disabilities of which in turn promote their independence. Assisted living facility is another service that needs to be improved, and this will provide personal care and rehabilitation center to the aged. Skilled nursing facilities should also be enhanced whereby nursing homes should be certified; the minimum qualification for nursing should be raised so that only qualified candidates can take a nursing course.

Continuing care retirement communities is another service that should be improved. The service is integrated into that it promotes independence with other continuum institutions, this is a community where different services are offered from different houses but at the same place. Intermediate care facility for mentally retarded has to be also enhanced to take care of the aging that is mentally challenged.
To conclude, there are different levels of care continuum that need to be enhanced according to Leiyu, the standards include the continuing care retirement communities and other levels discussed above.
