In my view, the following are the strong leadership characteristics: transparency, humility, ability to make a decision, a good communicator, confidence, integrity and honesty, passion and commitment, inspiring others, accountability, resilience, purpose and vision, innovation and creativity, delegation and empowerment and empathy. To succeed in gaining as well as maintaining leadership positions, CEO’s or politicians require various qualities. Having strong operational skills is one important quality many leaders have that help them in maintaining their position. Leadership ability, effective communication, building relationships, expertise in the industry, time management, and trustworthiness are qualities CEOs or politicians need to succeed in gaining and maintaining leadership positions 1 . Certain people, however, hold onto power for possessing various qualities. Being consistent, truthful, listening skills that are excellent, confident, firm identity, spontaneity, and empathy are the qualities I believe certain people have that help them hold on to power.

The messages available within the excerpt apply to modern politicians and modern politics. I think that modern politicians are false, ungrateful, fickle, greedy, and cowardly, where they do anything during the campaigns but turn against people after they succeed. Modern politicians also have the trait of inspiring fear in a way that they will not be hated in case they are not loved, and this helps them in maintaining their power 2 . In modern politics, appearance is key, and ruthlessness helps a politician keep their power. From the excerpt, elements that might still apply are like strong leadership in modern politics. A politician must always be ready to embrace various qualities depending on the occasion. The messages that I feel are no longer relevant are like winners taking it all where a politician’s methods will be seen as worthy always, and everyone will praise him/her. The excerpt, therefore, has messages that apply to modern politicians and modern politics.
