Fire is the light, smoke, and heat from a process where substances chemically combine with oxygen. The existence of fire depends on three things: fuel, oxygen, and a source of ignition. Without one of these three things, fire cannot start or burns itself out if it has already started. There are many different ways in which fires start. Some fires that have caused grievous effects started, such as a cigarette filter being carelessly disposed of. Some fires begin from our kitchens while others start when people prepare the land for cultivation using the slash-and-burn method. The fires that start from our kitchens are the most common, and it is possible to prevent them. People have lost or destroyed their homes and property, even lost their lives due to fires that begin this way. Once a fire has started, its spread and growth depend on a propellant or fuel availability. Combustibles and chemicals act as propellants of fire. Things such as newspapers, mattresses, some textiles, and sofa cushions available in our houses encourage the spread of fire. Fire burns hotter and even more aggressively when it comes into contact with these things. Cleaning items, chemicals, and paints are among things that quickly increase the spread of fire. Open spaces are likely to burn much faster than those with structures. Many people use water as a fire extinguisher. However, in cases where the fire has been caused by grease, a water douse spreads the fire. Fire is a result of combustion. In simple terms, combustion is the process of burning things. It is a process where an ingredient reacts with the oxygen producing heat. Combustion does not always have to result in a fire.
